Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit over my dining table or island?

The OSLO 3-Light is 46.5 inches long. For a rectangular dining table or island of 6 to 8 feet it centres well with room at either end. The rule most people use is to aim for the fixture to be between half and two thirds the length of the surface. If your table or island is shorter than about 5.5 feet, the OSLO 2-Light at 32.7 inches is the better proportion.

What is the difference between the 2-Light and the 3-Light?

Same shade, longer bar. Both versions use the same 14-inch shades, so the fixtures look identical in character. The 2-Light is 32.7 inches long, the 3-Light is 46.5 inches. That makes it a straightforward size decision: the 2-Light suits tables and islands of roughly 4 to 5.5 feet, the 3-Light suits 6 to 8 feet. The 3-Light also gives you a third more light, which matters if the fixture is the only light over the surface.

What bulbs does it take, and are they included?

Three E26 bulbs, not included, so you can pick your own brightness and colour temperature. Max 15W LED per shade, and that's the LED rating, not the light output. A 15W LED puts out roughly the same light as a 100W incandescent, so with three shades you're getting the equivalent of around 300W over the table. For warm, comfortable light in a kitchen or dining room, look for 2700K to 3000K.

How high should I hang it above the table?

Around 28 to 34 inches from the tabletop to the bottom of the shade is standard for dining. Over a kitchen island or counter, 30 to 36 inches. Higher spreads the light wider, lower concentrates it. The drop is adjustable up to 45.3 inches, so you set it during install.

Which colour should I choose?

White reads lightest and almost disappears against a pale ceiling. Black is the strongest contrast and defines the fixture as a graphic line over the table. Beige and brown are the warm options and sit closest in tone to the pine beam, so the whole fixture reads as one material rather than metal plus wood.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, with an external dimmer switch or smart bulbs. There's no integrated LED or built-in dimmer, which means you're not locked into one system and can swap bulbs whenever you want.

Does it need one ceiling box or several?

One. All three lights run from a single canopy, so there is no extra wiring or additional junction boxes.

Is it approved for Canadian electrical code?

Yes. cUL listed for both Canada and the US, so it passes inspection and won't cause issues with insurance or a home sale.

Do I need an electrician?

It's a hardwired fixture. If you're replacing an existing ceiling light on the same box, many people handle it themselves. If you're adding a new box or moving the location, use a licensed electrician. Assembly is straightforward and the fixture is light.

We love the light fixture, it goes perfectly with our design and colours. I would like it to have slightly higher wattage but is okay because we have other lights in the room that help. It also doesn't have any clamps for the height adjustment so we had to tie knots instead, which made the box too thick to sit flush with the ceiling.

Unfortunately, the knots are a requirement from the UL certifying body, and they instructed us to remove the set screws. We are actively working on improving the design while staying compliant with UL certification. For your reference, the maximum wattage for incandescent bulbs is 15W, but with LED bulbs you can go up to 100W. We really appreciate your input and are glad the light fits so well with your design and colors.
